Florentino Perez being re-elected as president has meant that Real Madrid have sealed their first two signings of the summer transfer window. Denzel Dumfries will arrive as the replacement for departing Dani Carvajal, while an agreement has also been sealed for Ibrahima Konate to jet in when his Liverpool contract expires.
Konate is a player that Real Madrid first registered their interest in last summer, and despite leaving the race in November, they eventually re-joined an subsequently wrapped up his signing. On paper, his addition is an exciting one, and one of those pleased at his impending Bernabeu move is international teammate Kylian Mbappe.

As per L’Equipe (via MD), Mbappe gave a glowing assessment of future club teammate Konate when asked about the defender’s impending move to Real Madrid.
“He’s a very aggressive defender, in the best sense of the word. Never a bad gesture, he is hard with the marking, he wants his opponent to feel that he is going to have a hard night. I love defenders like him in my team, with grit, who are tactically flexible, because they are capable of going after their marker as well as holding on in one-on-ones, winning duels and being tactically disciplined.”

Konate is a signing that makes a lot of sense for Real Madrid. Although he had a difficult final season at Liverpool, he’s proven himself to be very capable of being one of the best central defenders in world football.
It’s clear that he will predominantly be seen as an alternative/replacement for Antonio Rudiger, given how similar the two are. Konate will be a physical presence in the Real Madrid backline, and should he stay fit, he’s hope to establish a partnership with the aforementioned Germany defender, as well as Dean Huijsen and the currently-injured Eder Militao.

Clemson softball continued to strengthen its pitching staff Friday with the addition of College of Charleston transfer Mackenzie Mathis, one of the more accomplished arms available in the transfer portal.
The rising junior announced her commitment to the Tigers on social media.
Visit afsport.lat for more information.
“TYJ!! Ready for this next chapter. See you soon Tiger Town,” Mathis wrote.
Mathis arrives in Tigertown after putting together an impressive season with the Cougars. The right-hander went 16-9 with a 3.35 ERA while making 33 appearances and 24 starts. She also logged 13 complete games, showcasing the durability and workload that made her one of College of Charleston’s most valuable players.
In 156.2 innings, Mathis struck out 137 batters while issuing just 35 walks. Her performance throughout the season helped earn her Most Outstanding Player honors at the CAA Tournament as she played a key role in the Cougars’ postseason run.
She is also no stranger to Clemson.
Mathis faced the Tigers in the Athens Regional earlier this year and turned in a complete-game effort against John Rittman’s club. She allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out three and walking two.

The addition gives Clemson another experienced option in the circle heading into next season. While Mathis has already proven she can handle a significant workload, she also brings valuable postseason experience after helping lead College of Charleston to the NCAA Tournament.
As Clemson continues to reshape its roster through the transfer portal, adding a pitcher with Mathis’ track record is a notable pickup. Between her production, experience and ability to eat innings, the Tigers are bringing in a proven arm who should have an opportunity to make an immediate impact.
