Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh): Two young men posing as customers stole gold earrings and replaced them with brass ones. Cunning theft at a jeweller's shop in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri bullion market, leaving the shopkeeper unaware.

The entire incident was captured on the shop's CCTV cameras. Following the discovery of the theft, the police have launched a search for the accused based on the footage.

According to the reports, one youth kept the shopkeeper engaged in conversation, while the other seized the opportunity to steal a gold earring from the tray. To conceal the theft, the accused placed a brass earring that he had taken from his pocket in the same spot. Both youths then left the shop.

The suspect on the top right keeps the shopkeeper thoroughly distracted by pointing at items, talking, and gesturing, ensuring the shopkeeper’s eyes remain fixed on him.

The theft came to light when the shopkeeper retrieved the same tray to show an earring to another customer. Upon noticing that one of the earrings looked suspicious, he examined it and discovered it was made of brass.

Subsequently, the shopkeeper reviewed the CCTV footage, which had recorded the duo's entire act. The footage clearly shows one youth distracting the shopkeeper while the other removes the gold earring and replaces it with the brass one.

Following the complaint, the Kotwali police have initiated an investigation and are attempting to identify the accused using the CCTV footage.

জনপ্রশাসন মন্ত্রণালয়ের চুক্তি ও বৈদেশিক নিয়োগ শাখা থেকে জারি করা প্রজ্ঞাপনে বলা হয়েছে, কুমিল্লা উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষ আইন, ২০২৬–এর ধারা ৮ (১) অনুযায়ী উদবাতুল বারী আবুকে কুমিল্লা উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষের চেয়ারম্যান (গ্রেড–২) পদে নিয়োগ দেওয়া হয়েছে।

প্রজ্ঞাপন অনুযায়ী, অন্য কোনো পেশা, ব্যবসা বা সরকারি–বেসরকারি প্রতিষ্ঠানের সঙ্গে কর্মসম্পর্ক ত্যাগের শর্তে যোগদানের তারিখ থেকে এক বছরের জন্য দায়িত্ব পালন করবেন উদবাতুল বারী। নিয়োগের অন্যান্য শর্ত চুক্তিপত্রের মাধ্যমে নির্ধারণ করা হবে। জনপ্রশাসন মন্ত্রণালয়ের উপসচিব গোলাম রব্বানীর সই করা প্রজ্ঞাপনে বলা হয়েছে, জনস্বার্থে এ আদেশ জারি করা হয়েছে।

সম্প্রতি কুমিল্লা শহর ও আশপাশের এলাকার পরিকল্পিত নগরায়ণ, অবকাঠামো উন্নয়ন ও ভূমি ব্যবস্থাপনা কার্যক্রম পরিচালনার জন্য কুমিল্লা উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষ গঠন করে সরকার। নবগঠিত এই সংস্থার প্রথম চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পেলেন উদবাতুল বারী।

সংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যক্তি ও নগরের একাধিক বাসিন্দা জানান, কুমিল্লা উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষের মাধ্যমে দীর্ঘমেয়াদি মাস্টারপ্ল্যান প্রণয়ন, আবাসন উন্নয়ন, সড়ক ও নগর অবকাঠামো সম্প্রসারণ, জলাবদ্ধতা নিরসন ও পরিবেশবান্ধব নগর ব্যবস্থাপনা বাস্তবায়নের সুযোগ সৃষ্টি হবে। দ্রুত বর্ধনশীল কুমিল্লা শহরে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে অপরিকল্পিত নগরায়ণ, জলাবদ্ধতা ও আবাসনসংকটের মতো সমস্যা মোকাবিলায় একটি স্বতন্ত্র উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষ গঠনের দাবি ছিল।

সেই দাবির পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে চলতি বছরের এপ্রিলে সরকার কুমিল্লা উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষ প্রতিষ্ঠা করে। পরে গত ২১ মে গৃহায়ণ ও গণপূর্ত মন্ত্রণালয় এ–সংক্রান্ত গেজেট প্রকাশ করে।

উদবাতুল বারী আবু কুমিল্লা নগরের দ্বিতীয় কান্দিরপাড় এলাকার বাসিন্দা। ২০২৫ সালে অনুষ্ঠিত কুমিল্লা মহানগর বিএনপির দ্বিবার্ষিক সম্মেলনে বিনা প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতায় সভাপতি নির্বাচিত হন তিনি। এর আগে ২০২২ সাল থেকে তিনি মহানগর বিএনপির আহ্বায়ক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। ছাত্রজীবনে তিনি কুমিল্লা ভিক্টোরিয়া সরকারি কলেজ ছাত্র সংসদে নেতৃত্ব দেন। রাজনৈতিক জীবনের শুরুতে কুমিল্লা শহর ছাত্রদলের সভাপতি ছিলেন।

চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে নিয়োগ পাওয়ার প্রতিক্রিয়ায় আজ শুক্রবার উদবাতুল বারী আবু বলেন, কুমিল্লাকে একটি পরিকল্পিত ও আধুনিক নগরীতে রূপ দিতে তিনি সবার পরামর্শ ও সহযোগিতা নিয়ে কাজ করতে চান। কুমিল্লা নগর ও জেলার মানুষের সঙ্গে দীর্ঘদিনের রাজনৈতিক ও সামাজিক সম্পৃক্ততা থাকায় এ দায়িত্ব পালনে সুবিধা পাবেন তিনি।

উদবাতুল বারী আরও বলেন, দীর্ঘদিনের দাবির পর সরকার কুমিল্লা উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষ প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছে। আগামী রোববার আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে দায়িত্ব গ্রহণের পর পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী সংস্থাটির কার্যক্রম শুরু হবে।
