Explosive response from Wimbledon head over Serena wildcard saga

· Yahoo Sports

Serena Williams only needed one match at Queen’s to put herself back on the radar of both fans and tournament officials.

More specifically, she caught the eye of those in charge of handing out Wimbledon wildcards.

Williams didn’t come back just to be another name in the draw. She’s here to compete, and everyone knows that when she sets her sights on something, she usually finds a way.

Her return wasn’t about filling numbers; she came back to compete. And with Wimbledon on the horizon, it’s exactly where she’d want to make an impact.

The wildcard announcements are still pending, but Sally Bolton shared some insight into their selection process just yesterday, giving a hint at what might be coming.

Wimbledon boss suggests Serena Williams’ wildcard decision

During a press conference covered by The Independent, All England Lawn Tennis Club chief Sally Bolton was asked about the possibility of Serena receiving a wildcard spot if she expressed interest.

Bolton responded candidly, saying: “I can’t answer that question, but I guess what I can say is we can all see how much excitement Serena being back on a tennis court and particularly on a grass court has created, and so one can only imagine what that would be like at the championships.

“The wildcard committee will formally make their decisions next week and we’ll be communicating those, but she has certainly created a fantastic buzz and that’s exciting for the sport.”

The selection process is expected to be challenging, as they will need to balance between rewarding deserving British players and other international stars. There have been calls for Maja Chwalinska to receive a Wimbledon wildcard, among others.

Victoria Mboko ruled out of Wimbledon after injury at Queen’s

The same report from The Independent also detailed the seriousness of Victoria Mboko’s injury.

Serena Williams’ appearance at Queen’s came to an early end because the Canadian had to retire from her singles match after falling awkwardly and hurting her knee.

While there hasn’t been an official diagnosis yet, it has come out that the 19-year-old won’t be able to play at Wimbledon this year.

Serena Williams sent a message to Mboko, wishing her the best after it had happened, but likely could not have imagined the damage would be so severe.

After what has been a really impressive campaign, building on last year’s breakthrough, this marks a hammer blow for the teenage sensation.

Jacob Misiorowski dominates Phillies as 2025 All-Star criticism comes full circle

· Yahoo Sports

Jacob Misiorowski dominates Phillies as 2025 All-Star criticism comes full circle originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

Jacob Misiorowski marked his first MLB anniversary with a special performance against an opponent who doubted his 2025 All-Star selection. We are talking about the Philadelphia Phillies, who thought little of the Milwaukee Brewers' ace when MLB announced he would replace Chicago Cubs left-hander Matthew Boyd in last year's Midsummer Classic.

Visit tr-sport.bond for more information.

Misiorowski had a dream night, tossing a complete game in just 95 pitches, allowing only one hit and striking out 15. He broke the record of fastest MLB pitch since tracking of the same began in 2008, with his fastball clocking 104.5 mph. His last pitch, a 103 mph heater, struck out Justin Crawford, making him the first pitcher in the modern era to face the minimum number of batters in a complete game involving 15 strikeouts as well. He becomes the first "Maddux" in Brewers history since CC Sabathia tossed a complete game in less than 100 pitches in 2008.

The masterful pitching performance resurfaced the Phillies' players' comments from last year. In July, they claimed that Cristopher Sánchez and Ranger Suárez deserved that vacant All-Star seat in place of Misirowski. Phillies shortstop Trea Turner even went to an extent, saying it was a "joke" that Misirowski, who went 4-1 in five starts, including 33 strikeouts, didn't deserve the selection.

“What a joke,” Turner said. “That’s f— terrible. I mean, that’s terrible, dude.”

“That’s just how MLB does it now,” J.T. Realmuto said. “Nothing against the Misiorowski kid. But those two (Sánchez and Suárez) are deserving of being on the team in the first place. There’s no doubt.”

Jacob Misiorowski justifies his worth

Those comments from the Phillies stars now age poorly as they were on the receiving end of a complete demolition led by Jacob Misiorowski. He allowed just one hit, a single to Kyle Schwarber in the fourth inning, before catching up to him on a double play to get Bryce Harper.

At the time, it may have annoyed many Phillies fans, on why MLB made a controversial decision to make Misiorowski the fastest All-Star selection in the sport's history. But over the course of one year, the Brewers ace has stood up tall on multiple occasions and is proving that he is no joke.
