In the NBA, a 41-year-old LeBron James is defying Father Time by maintaining his level as one of the very best players on the planet. It’s a superhuman feat to be able to play that deep into your career in most sports, but not golf.

45-year-old Justin Rose is still going strong, competing for major championships and winning on the PGA Tour. Phil Mickelson won a major championship at 50. If you look after your body, golf is a sport you can play at an elite level deep into your career.

But a 65-year-old is pushing the boundaries of what is possible even for golfers, breaking an LPGA record.

Juli Inkster becomes oldest player to make the cut at an LPGA Tour event

At 65 years old, American Juli Inkster has become the oldest player to ever make the cut at an LPGA Tour event.

Making her 718th start on the LPGA Tour, Inkster made the cut at the Dow Championship, teaming up with Angel Yin.

The duo shot 69-68 and is tied for 25th at Midland Country Club in Midland, Michigan. They are 3 under overall and trail the leaders by eight shots heading into the weekend.

Inkster etched her name in the record books, but not for the first time in her LPGA career.

Who is Juli Inkster, the oldest to make an LPGA cut?

Inkster has now written her name into the history books as the oldest player to make an LPGA cut, but even before the Dow Championship, she was an esteemed figure in LPGA history.

She ranks 18th on the tour’s all-time money list, having joined the LPGA in 1983. She has won 31 times, including seven major championships, her most recent major victory coming at the 2002 US Women’s Open.

Inkster is a two-time winner of the Chevron Championship, the Women’s US Open, and the Women’s PGA Championship, and she won the Du Maurier Classic in 1984. That came months after her first major win at the 1984 Chevron.

Her success in this team event should come as no surprise. Inkster has more wins in Solheim Cup matches than any other American.

She is also the only golfer in LPGA Tour history to win two major championships in a decade for three consecutive decades, winning three in the 1980s, two in the 1990s, and two in the 2000s.

She is the standard for longevity in the women’s game.
